We give some sketches of the stirring scenes witnessed at the “Express” fiscal parrot competition at the St James’ Restaurant yesterday, a graphic account of which, together with verbatim reports of some of the speeches, appears on page 1. One of the many pleasing features of the show was the juxtaposition to the winner of the first prize for saying most distinctly the preposterous words, “Your food will cost you more”, of a big red and green macaw whose favourite remark is “Liar!”.
A wooden parrot was exhibited with a card bearing the legend, “Though dumb, but I think your food will cost you more”.
